The proportion of Utah public school 8th graders who scored at the highest two levels in mathematics on national assessment tests increased by 36% between 1992 and 2005.

- Of the 770,000 children in Utah, 102,000, or 13%, are living in poverty.[14] Among the 50 states and the District of Columbia, Utah ranks 34th in percentage of children living in poverty.[15]
- 26% of Utah's children live with parents who do not have full-time, year-round employment (the national average is 34%).[16]
- 6% of teens in Utah do not attend school and do not work (the national average is 8%).[17]
- Utah residents aged 20-24 have an unemployment rate of 4.5% (the state unemployment rate for all ages is 2.9%).[18]
