caucus 101: countdown to caucus

One of the many benefits of last year's voucher petition and referendum was a renewed sense of how important it is for each of us to take an active role in our representative democracy. For many people, signing the petition or gathering signatures was a first step into the world of political involvement. Thousands of volunteers reached out to their communities, educated their families, friends, and neighbors, and stood up to elected officials who had forgotten who they are supposed to represent. With November's resounding defeat of Referendum 1, we sent a message that we stand for, in President Lincoln's famous words, "a government of the people, by the people, for the people."

To encourage continued citizen involvement in state and local government, Utahns for Public Schools offers a new informational section on our website: Countdown to Caucus. Follow the links below to learn how you can really make a difference in state government and influence education policy. Here's a hint: It takes more than voting, and it starts long before November!
